Discharge Summary Completion Versus Unit Workload

Timely and accurate completion of hospital discharge summaries is key to communication and handover of care to primary care practitioners. This task, however, is prioritised lower than urgent clinical tasks by hospital medical officers. We hypotheise that completion rate of discharge summaries within 48 hours of discharge is negatively correlated with unit workload as measured by surrogate markers of inpatient activity and staffing.
